Lloyd was first admitted as a legal practitioner in Queensland in 1985, taking up practice in New South Wales in 1989. After a career in the Commonwealth Public Service, Lloyd entered private practice in late 2000 and joined Back Schwartz Vaughan in 2007.
Lloyd conducts a large litigation practice from our Sydney CBD office which involves representing people and companies in a variety of matters. Lloyd's public practice experience had a criminal, taxation and litigation focus, conducting taxation recovery litigation and proceedings under the Commonwealth proceeds of crime legislation, as well as practising in Commonwealth criminal law. His experience with the Australian Taxation Office, Australian Government Solicitor, National Crimes Authority and Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions makes him well placed to assist clients through the process of taxation audits and investigation, appeals and recovery litigation and criminal proceedings. That experience also has given to Lloyd a sound understanding of public service culture and the particular demands of acting for and litigating against government departments and agencies.
Lloyd's private practice experience has been in the areas of insolvency and mortgage, building and construction, commercial leasing and general commercial litigation. In particular, Lloyd has extensive experience in litigating the regulatory environment and in complex fraud related matters. Lloyd's continuing interest in taxation law led him to undertake a Masters of Law degree at the University of Sydney, studying particularly in the area of International Taxation Law and the legal systems of East Asian countries. Lloyd conducts a broad range of litigation matters of a commercial kind in the Land and Environment Court, Local, District and Supreme Courts of New South Wales as well as criminal, estate litigation and family law matters. Lloyd is involved in diverse areas such as insurance litigation, criminal prosecution, debt recovery/commercial matters and a wide range of administrative appeals, workers compensation and negligence matters. He also has experience in employment matters, advising both employers and employees.
