Karaoke Bar & Nightclub, Sydney

The team at Back Schwartz Vaughan have successfully assisted the Licensee of a proposed new and exciting nightclub and karaoke bar to be opened next year at World Square Shopping Centre, 644 George Street, Sydney.

The venue had an existing but restricted on-premises licence. Our team identified the changes required to the liquor licence so that it had the greatest flexibility to meet the Licensee’s proposed new business model.

Our work included the preparation of a Category B Community Impact Statement (CIS) that considered all the social risks of the new business activities [namely “karaoke venue” and “other public entertainment venue”], changing the boundaries of the existing primary service authorisation, and operating the venue until 2.00am each day.  The CIS also addressed the “rebuttable presumption” against its approval because the venue is within a designated Cumulative Impact Areas in the Sydney CBD Entertainment Precinct, namely Area 1 – South CBD.

Due to the significant experience of the BSV team, we are delighted that we could overcome the legal hurdles and the Applications were approved. The inclusion of the two new business activities means the Licensee is now permitted to operate both a karaoke bar and nightclub [until 2.00am each day].

This new venue is approximately 1,131 sqm and has a capacity for 640 (includes staff, patrons and performers).  It promises an amazing fit out and will add to the vibrant and busy nightlife of World Square and George Street in Sydney’s CBD.
