Social Impact Assessments

Most businesses in NSW must obtain a planning approval, from their local consent authority, that permits them to trade in the way they wish.  This approval is required to be provided to the NSW Liquor and Gaming when applying for their liquor licence.  Sometimes a private certifier can issue a complying development certificate that confirms the use.  At other times a separate development application must be made to the local consent authority seeking approval for the proposed use.  Our office regularly prepares Social Impact Assessments (SIA) that are lodged with local consent authorities to support the issue of a development consent.  In some cases our community impact statements, prepared for the liquor related application, satisfies their requirements and the SIA is not required.  Either way each document sets out the social risk indicators of the sale of alcohol under the proposed business model.  If you seek assistance with a planning related matter for your NSW business (that has a liquor component) or you require assistance in obtaining the desired liquor licence for your business, please contact Tony Schwartz via telephone on (02) 8383 3777, or by email at tschwartz@bsv.com.au.
